How to create an Open Ended question?

How to create an Open ended question in Sendsteps?

You can add an open ended question type in the web app by clicking on the +Add slide button. This button is purple. After clicking on this button you should select the open-ended icon. What are the settings for an Open ended question in the Web App?

You can find the settings that belong to open ended on the right side of your screen. If you can’t find the settings please read Where can I find the question settings?


How to change the template slide?

It is possible to change the template slide in the web app. You can select three colors when you have the free version and for the other version you have all the colors available. If you want your company branding please read How to change the template style?

What are the different slide options for the Open ended question types?


What is the maximum number of responses per participant?

This enables you to choose how many times a participant can respond to your question.


How to change the maximum number of responses?   

In this option you can choose how many messages are shown on your presentation screen. It will look like this if you keep the default setting. (Orange arrow shows where you can find the option)



Change setting  

If you want to change this setting you can choose between 1-5 messages shown, with 1 being the minimum and 5 being the maximum. The GIF down below will show how it would look if you changed it to five.  



What is “participants vote on responses of others” setting?  

This option enables people to vote on an answer of other participants. This is enabled by default in Q&A.


Review the responses  

This option enables you to select the answer that is shown on the screen. If activated, it will show a URL where you can go to moderate the response (only possible when Sendsteps is started).

PowerPoint Add-in

How to create an Open ended question in PowerPoint?

You can add an open ended question in PowerPoint by clicking on the ‘’Add question type’’ icon. After this you need to select the open ended icon to add an open ended question to your presentation. If you can’t find the Sendsteps menu please read the article: How to find the Sendsteps tool?



What are the settings for Open ended questions in PowerPoint?

There are many settings for the Open ended question type. To access the setting please go to ‘’options’’ if you have the question open or go to ‘’Edit question setting’’ If you can't find the question settings please read this article: Where can I find question options?


What are the display options for Open ended? 

Control the amount of messages someone can send

The first option in a word cloud is immediately shown when you select the question. This option enables you to select the amount of messages someone can send. The standard is unlimited but you can choose between 1-100 messages for that slide. 

 

If you want to control other possible options go to the option menu of the word cloud.

Display a message counter

Enables you to show how many messages are sent in a slide. This can be turned on & off. It is on by default.

Display participants counter on the slide

Show how many people are participating in the slideshow. It is on by default..

The audience is able to respond

The image above shows the options you can select when your audience is able to respond. It’s on by default ‘’Only while this message slide is shown’’. 


Music settings.

Want to add music to your presentation? Easy!
There are three options you can choose from:
  1. Comforting Beat
  2. Exciting Quiz
  3. Playful Quiz

Slide design

Your slide design is by default the basic slide of Sendsteps. If you have a company license this design would be on by default. If you would like to change your slide design we have a whole article written about it. Please go to the article What is the slide design option?


What is an Open ended question?

Open ended questions allow you to get qualitative answers filled with information from participants. By asking this type of question, you are giving your participants the opportunity to answer whatever way they like, without limiting or influencing them with predefined answers. With this type of question you will get answers you never thought of. This will give you the opportunity to show the audience you are listening to them and it's not a one-way conversation where the speaker talks and the participants listen. The best way to use an open ended question is to start a discussion or brainstorm with your participants.
